Overcoming The Challenges of Writing Your Story
When it comes to writing and publishing your very first book, be prepared for a few expected and unexpected obstacles. Sharing your story is certainly a worthy endeavor that can provide plenty of both short-term satisfaction and long-term success. But the road to get from idea to a piece of literature in print can certainly have its challenges.
So give yourself a jump start on overcoming these potential hurdles by being aware of the typical challenges. Remember these as you progress through your story, and you’ll have a much easier time getting to that finish line.
Even established authors report that those first few pages can be the most difficult part of the writing process.
Where do you start?
What is your point of view?
And where do you go from there?
The trick to overcoming this is not to overthink it! Remember that you can always go back and revise as needed as your story starts to take shape.
Just start writing, let your voice and story naturally sharpen as you progress, and simply go from there!
How do you make sure your book isn’t too long, or too short?
How do you make sure your chapters are equal length?
Or that you don’t spend too much time dwelling on a single plot development or anecdote?
The answer is to use an outline. An outline can be as rough or as detailed as you’d like.
But if you’re concerned about being too wordy or too short, then try dividing your outline by chapter. You can then ensure each chapter is more or less the same length. This way, you’ll have a clearer idea of where to start, where to finish, and all the details in between.
Writing your first book can be intimidating!
It’s a process that requires lots of work, a willingness to open up and share your insight, and the consistent knowledge that your story is worth sharing.
But even the most acclaimed authors have their doubts from time to time. So make sure you have a written, verbal, or simply internal reminder that spells out exactly why sharing your experience is important. With a gentle reminder to yourself about why you need to move forward and keep writing, you can keep your confidence level high without slowing down the progress of your book.
Many would-be authors never complete their book simply because they are worried it won’t find an audience, or even get published.
But with a partner publisher, you can move forward knowing that you have the best resources available when it comes to self-publishing your story!
Enlist high level and strategic coaching if you need an extra hand along the way that will provide exceptional results in just a day’s time. Or simply rely on your partner publisher to do the heavy lifting once your book is finished, with high quality, professional book production services.
