4 Fundamentals to a Truly Purposeful Life

3 Jan, 2018 Personal Development

Recently, we’ve been talking about New Year’s resolutions. If you haven’t already, check out: Resolutions Are Great, But Why Wait!

What have you resolved to do to bring more purpose into your life?

What would that include? Would it mean writing a book? Sharing your story? Or something else?

Think of this as designing a blueprint for the next chapter of your life.

In some areas of your life, you probably know exactly what you want and the direction you’re heading. In others, you may need more direction and guidance to achieve your goals.

An open mind and persistence will open the doors to new possibilities and bring greater purpose to your life.

Designing the Blueprint of Your Life With Four Fundamental Cornerstones

1. Family & Friends

Like most of us, family is first and always the top of the priority list.

Take a look at your closest relationships. How are things going?

  • Is everyone happy and healthy?
  • How is your communication among one another?
  • Is there something you’re not saying, or something you wish you hadn’t said?
  • Are you spending enough time with those you love?

Prioritizing and maintaining healthy relationships builds a strong foundation for a purposeful life. Toxic relationships can hold you back from stepping into your greatness.

Maybe there’s someone you want to get closer to or a negative relationship you need to cut out. Identify areas for improvement or change, and design how you want your relationships to look moving forward.

2. Health

If there’s one thing you can count on it is that you have just one body for your time on earth!

Health is another top priority! If you’re not able to take care of yourself, you will not be able to care for others or share your story with those who need it most.

Set a health goal that is meaningful to you. Don’t worry about what others are doing or what may be aesthetically pleasing, but focus on how you feel in your skin.

Are you tired and sluggish in the morning? Commit to getting more sleep. Eat foods that energize you for the day, rather than slow you down.

Are you out of breath after climbing just one flight of stairs? Consider a new exercise routine.

Find a way to improve your physical health for all-around better quality of life.

3. Passion

Passion is one of the “PRINCE”-iples of Success and one of my favorite topics!

What is your passion? That’s the million dollar question.

Your passion informs your purpose and can manifest in your career, hobbies, relationships or even experiences.

When passion is completely absent from your life, it’s hard to get excited or motivated to achieve great things. Plus, it’s a whole lot more fun to be passionate about what you do!

“Book Bound By the Sea” helps passionate soon-to-be authors get their book OUT of their heads and ON to paper.

4. Personal Growth

How will you step into your greatness this year?

Make personal growth your mission in 2018.

If you’ve fallen into a rut, you may be missing out on opportunities for learning and self-betterment.

In the Wheel of Life, as created by Zig Ziglar, is comprised of seven spokes:

  • Mental
  • Spiritual
  • Physical
  • Personal
  • Financial
  • Career
  • Family

Take a look at each “spoke” and give it a score from 1-10.

Which spokes are strong? Which are weak? When the spokes are uneven, your wheel won’t have a smooth ride.

Commit to strengthening those spokes which need more attention to find greater balance in your life.
